Perhaps the most challenging, and certainly the muddiest event that team AlerStallings has ever been through took place last Saturday when the world-renowned race, Tough Mudder, hosted their first ever event in the state of Ohio.
The site of the race was Mansfield Lahm Airport, where the hosts of the event rolled out a 10 mile course with 22 obstacles. The route saw well over 10,000 participants take on the self proclaimed “Toughest Event On The Planet.” Team AlerStallings consisted of 13 people, including 9 spectators, 6 AlerStallings employees, and 4 bravest of them all – Greg Aler, Tim Stallings, Geoff Kunkler, and Fernanda Aler – who actually participated in the race.
The race started at noon for Team AlerStallings, when our “Tough 4” hit the mud running. The cheerleading squad of the team watched as our mudders took on such obstacles as Arctic Enema, Firewalker, Mud Mile #1 and #2, Ladder to Hell, Walk the Plank, and Everest. The most
impressive thing about AlerStallings team was that they did not leave anyone behind while still going through obstacles with steady speed.
One of the hardest obstacles for our team was probably Arctic Enema, which was essentially a bath filled with ice-cold water. This was only the second obstacle, but we saw a lot of people giving up after this one. However, for our team, it was just a challenge that strengthened their will and made them run faster and reach higher.
Each member proudly sported the awarded orange headband with pride for the remainder of the day and had trouble getting off the couch the rest of the weekend. Even spectators, who also got to experience a little “kiss of mud”, had to rest for a while.
Although the Tough Mudder event was a great time, we all remembered the cause that brought us together that day and it was truly an inspiration for overcoming the obstacles. As raving supporters of Ohio Veterans, team AlerStallings was proud to contribute to the Wounded Warrior Project.
